Professor John Fraser AO is a globally recognised clinician-scientist, intensive care specialist and entrepreneur whose career has been dedicated to turning bold medical ideas into life-saving realities. As Director of the Critical Care Research Group at The University of Queensland, he has built an international reputation for combining clinical excellence with scientific innovation, leading research that has changed the way critical illness, organ transplantation and cardiac failure are treated around the world.

From pioneering advances in donor heart recovery that helped transform heart transplantation, to co-founding BiVACOR with Dr Dan Timms its inventor – and its revolutionary total artificial heart, John has consistently worked at the intersection of medicine, technology and patient care. During the COVID-19 pandemic he established the global COVID-19 Critical Care Consortium, bringing together over 400 hundred hospitals across more than 60 countries to improve intensive care outcomes. An Officer of the Order of Australia (AO), recognised among Australia’s Top 100 Innovators and the World’s Top 2% Scientists, John has authored more than 800 publications, secured over $160 million in research funding, and remains driven by a simple goal: delivering innovations that improve and save lives.
