Professor Arthur Slutsky CM is an internationally recognised intensive care specialist, clinician-scientist, engineer, innovator and entrepreneur whose research has transformed the treatment of critically ill patients worldwide. Best known for his pioneering work in ventilator-induced lung injury and lung-protective ventilation strategies, his discoveries have fundamentally changed intensive care practice and improved outcomes for patients suffering from acute respiratory failure and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). A Member of the Order of Canada, Professor Slutsky has authored more than 750 scientific publications and is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading figures in critical care medicine.

In addition to his scientific achievements, Professor Slutsky has held a number of influential leadership positions, including serving as the inaugural Vice President of Research at St. Michael’s Hospital and the inaugural Director of the Critical Care Division at the University of Toronto. Drawing on expertise that spans medicine, engineering and translational research, he has advanced multidisciplinary innovation, shaped the global critical care research landscape and helped improve patient outcomes around the world.
